About/Contact
Linn Obrestad is a multidisciplinary artist working across experimental film, visual art, and poetic documentary. Drawing on a background in fine art, biotechnology, anthropology, programming, and cultural studies, she brings a research-led and field-responsive approach to her practice. Rooted in complexity-sensitive artivism, Obrestad resists simplification, working instead with layered narratives, situated inquiry, material thinking, and hybrid forms of sense-making.
Her ongoing project Extractions examines the cultural, ecological, and psychological impacts of resource extraction through long-term, collaborative, and research-driven processes. Her work has been presented internationally in film festivals, exhibitions, galleries, and cross-disciplinary platforms, where art, ecology, and science converge in dialogue.
Selected education: BFA, College of Fine Arts, Sydney, Australia, MA in Art and Design, University of South-Eastern Norway, MA in Culture Studies, University of South-Eastern Norway, BSc in Biotechnology, and BA in Social Anthropology, University of Oslo
I make documentaries, art, and everything in between. I love complexity and resist the obvious, the simple, and the inobscure. Some days I prefer fragments; other days I favour wholeness. I aim for comprehension, but I’ll settle for interpretation.
